This year the IBA West Political Summit is taking a new approach to training members about grassroots political action. The Emerging Leaders committee of IBA West has devised a “Virtual Political Summit” that eliminates the time and expense of traveling to the state Capitol in Sacramento but still provides in-depth and personalized instruction on the best techniques for members to employ to have their voices heard by legislators and public policy leaders. 

On Friday, April 13, 2012, independent insurance agents and brokers will learn how the California legislative process works, be briefed on key issues, and immediately use that knowledge to meet with their lawmakers. By combining live, interactive technology with face-to-face In-District legislative meetings, IBA West will make it easy for agents and brokers to deliver important legislative messages to California legislators. 

The program begins with Why It's Important To Get Involved In The Political Process by Clark Payan, AAI, ARM, IBA West CEO. Getting involved in the collective strength of independent insurance agents and brokers through IBA West grassroots advocacy is the best way to get your voice heard. Juan Vargas, California Senator (D-40th District) will address the question, Are Agents & Brokers Being Left Behind?  More federal insurance regulation is coming and the state is deciding on the future distribution of health insurance.
