California Health Benefit Exchange Presentation Available Online

 

IBA West General Counsel Steve Young and Legislative Advocate John Norwood presented an overview of the health insurance exchange forming in the state as required by federal health insurance reform passed last year.

As promised, IBA West will provide members with updates as the process of the establishing the exchange mechanism continutes. Below is a summary from the Exchange’s board meeting held last week which contains important updates and information that are now available on the Exchange’s website at www.hbex.ca.gov.   Links to specific documents are embedded below: 

·         Essential Health Benefits Bulletin: Comments Submitted to Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius.   The Exchange submitted comments jointly with the Department of Health Care Services, Department of Managed Health Care, Department of Insurance, and the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board on the federal Essential Health Benefits bulletin.  The letter was informed by the Exchange board meeting and comments received.   

·         Revised Board Meeting Schedule for 2012 and February 21st Agenda.  The Exchange Board announced a revised meeting schedulefor 2012.  The next board meeting will highlight panel presentations on Qualified Health Plan contracting and delivery reform expectations. 

·         California Healthcare Eligibility, Enrollment, and Retention System (CalHEERS) Solicitation Final Release:  The Exchange released the final elements related to the information technology solicitation that will support enrollment in the Exchange, Medi-Cal and Healthy Families (including the model contract and terms and conditions).  The solicitation can be found here.
