Harlan Miller and Anthony J. DiBuduo Award Winners: Brandon Okita and Eric Rothman
The YBA Committee awarded its most prestigious awards to two outstanding young agents for their contributions to the industry.
Brandon Okita of FIA Insurance Services, Inc. in Pasadena won the 2011 Harlan Miller Award for his outstanding dedication to the political grassroots program of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA).
Okita participated in the IIABA National Legislative Conference and has attended in-district meetings with federal, state and local elected representatives.
Okita is a long time leader of the association on a local and state level. He currently serves on the IBA West Strategic Planning Council and has served on the IBA West Young Brokers & Agents Committee of which he was Chair in 2010. During that year, he organized the 4th Annual YBA Political Summit. On a local level, he is Past President of IIABA Los Angeles.
The award was named for Harlan Miller who served as president of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of California, now IBA West, in 1985-1986, and of IIABA in 1994-1995, for his exemplary record of service to his community and his association. Harlan Miller Award recipients receive a $1,000 scholarship to offset expenses they incur participating in the IIABA Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.
Eric Rothman of C.M. Meiers Company in Woodland Hills was awarded the Anthony J. “Cheech” DiBuduo Award in recognition of his outstanding service to his community and the industry.
Rothman has served on the IBA San Fernando Valley Board of Directors for 8 years and is currently serving as President. He has attended the National Big “I” Legislative Conference 3 times and has participated in local political town hall and fundraising functions for Representative Sherman and Representative Berman.
Rothman’s community service includes serving on committees in the Woodland Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Agoura, Oak Park, Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce.
This award is presented in memory of Anthony J. “Cheech” DiBuduo, founder of DiBuduo & DeFendis Insurance Group, and a longtime business, industry and trade association leader at local, state and national levels. Throughout his distinguished career, DiBuduo was a champion and mentor of young agents and brokers. He also set a standard of unparalleled commitment to the political action programs of both IBA West and IIABA.
The DiBuduo Award includes a $2,500 stipend that the deserving young broker or agent may utilize as he or she sees fit to continue the good works recognized through the award.
