Legislative Update - Senate Labor & Industrial Relations Committee

 

AB 197 (Monning): This bill would increase the amount of liquidated damages that may be awarded to an employee when an employer fails to pay minimum wage to two times the wages unlawfully unpaid, plus interest.

AB 197 passed the committee with a vote of 4-2.

AB 325 (Lowenthal): This bill would authorize employees to take four days of unpaid time off in the event of the death of certain relatives.

AB 325 passed the committee with a vote of 4-2.

AB 584 (Fong): This bill would require that a physician who is conducting utilization review be licensed in California.  Specifically, this bill would require that a "physician," as defined in the workers' compensation law, who is conducting utilization review of the proposed treatment for an injured worker, be licensed in California. It would also make a technical change in the definition of "psychologist" for purposes of the workers' compensation law and would conform the law that governs disability determinations by the Employment Development Department for purposes of the State Disability Insurance Program to the changes being made to the workers' compensation law.

AB 584 passed the committee with a vote of 4-1.
