WCAN Legislative Day

Workers' Compensation Action Network (WCAN) conducted their annual workers’ compensation legislative day earlier this week. IBA West CEO Clark Payan represented IBA West as a member of the coalition that supports WCAN including event sponsors, the California Coalition on Workers' Compensation, CalChamber and the California Manufacturers & Technology Association.

The group began the day with an overview the key issues likely to be addressed in this legislative session. WCAN stressed the importance of communication with legislators and their key staff since most of the legislature was not in place when the significant reforms were passed almost five years ago.

“IBA West will continue to support WCAN and closely watch workers’ compensation legislative developments to protect and preserve the reforms massed in 2004,” said Payan.

Christine Baker, Chief Deputy of the Department of Industrial Relations and former Executive Director for the Commission on Safety and Health and Workers’ Compensation addressed the group at lunch.

The after noon was spent visiting legislators in their offices.  For more information on WCAN and to review their briefing materials, visit the WCAN site at www.fixworkerscompnow.com.
