Legislative Update -- Assembly Labor & Employment Committee

AB 10 (Alejo): This bill would increase the state's minimum wage from $8.00 per hour to $8.50 per hour and requires the minimum wage to automatically adjust annually based on the California Consumer Price Index (CPI).

This bill passed the committee with a vote of 5-1.

AB 59 (Swanson): This bill would amend the California Family Rights Act (CFRA) to expand the definition of family member to include leave to care for a sibling, grandparent, grandchild, or parent-in-law with a serious health condition.  The bill would specify that permissible leave includes leave to care for a domestic partner with a serious condition.

This bill passed the committee with a vote of 5-1.

AB 217 (Carter): This bill would modify an exemption in current law authorizing smoking in "patient smoking areas" in long-term health care facilities.

This bill passed the committee with a vote of 5-1.

AB 243 (Alejo): This bill would require an employer who is a farm labor contractor (FLC) to disclose on the itemized payroll statement furnished to employees the name and address of the grower or other FLC that secured the employer's services.  AB 243 would provide that the listing by the FLC of the name and address of the legal entity that secured the services of the employer on the itemized payroll statement shall not create any liability on the part of that legal entity.

This bill passed the committee with a vote of 5-1.
