Big "I" Legislative Conference & Convention, April 13-15, 2011

This year’s biggest political event for independent brokers and agents takes place on April 13th – 15th during the Big “I” Legislative Conference & Convention.  

As they tirelessly do year after year, Big “I” members will descend upon Washington D.C. to lobby the House and Senate on critical issues concerning our industry.  Some of the hot button topics will include health care reform, tax reform and the threat of federal regulations on the insurance industry.

This year, the Big “I” will be issuing three scholarships to help defray the costs of attending a National Legislative Conference: The Maurice Herndon Scholarship and the Big “I” Young Agents Scholarships.

The $1,000 Maurice Herndon Scholarship will be presented to one Young Agent who has not attended a National Legislative Conference in the past.  The scholarship was established in 2003 to honor Maurice Herndon who was named head of the Washington D.C. office in 1949.  He coordinated the Big “I” state associations and built the government affairs and grassroots operations via his extensive travel, education, passion and hard work.  Applications for the Maurice Herndon Scholarship are due March 1st and can be found by clicking here.

The Big “I” National Young Agents Committee (YAC) is offering each state association two $500 scholarships to assist Young Agents who have not previously attended a Big “I” Legislative Conference & Convention.  Click here to complete application and return to Jenn Thuma at jthuma@ibawest.com or via fax, 619-542-0612 by March 1st.
