The California Insurance Wholesalers Association recently honored David F. Anderson, chairman of Anderson & Murison, with its Wholesale Industry Award.
"Congratulations to Dave on this well deserved recognition," said Clark Payan, IBA West CEO. "IBA West has enjoyed a long, successful partnership with Anderson & Murison going back 25 years thanks in large part to an excellent working relationship with Dave and his colleagues."
IBA West's personal umbrella policy program with Anderson & Murison was a ground breaking program at its inception, recalled Payan. Anderson was a founder of CIWA and served as its from 1991 to 1993. He also served on the board of the directors continuously from 1991 until 2010. He was also one of only two individuals to serve twice as chairman of the Surplus Line Association of California, in 1974 and again in 1982 reported Insurance Journal.
“Without Dave Anderson, the face of the wholesale insurance industry would not be what it is today,” said Hank Haldeman, executive vice president and director of The Sullivan Group, who presented the award, according to Insurance Journal.
“For every major initiative to promote or defend the wholesale industry and surplus lines in this part of the country for the past 30 years, you’ll find Dave Anderson,” Jerry Sullivan, chairman of Gerald J. Sullivan & Associates, told the Insurance Journal.
Anderson was a major force in the surplus lines industry on the state and also nationally. He served as president of the American Association of Managing General Agents in 1981 and served on AAMGA’s executive committee from 1976 to 1982. And he served as a board member of the Surplus Line Coalition in 1993.
Anderson began his career in 1950 as a property/casualty agent. He became a property/casualty broker 1953 and received his surplus line license since 1967. Prior to founding Anderson & Murison, Anderson worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., The Rule Company Insurance Brokers, General Insurance Consultants and Commercial Security Insurance Exchange. He has served as an expert witness regarding the surplus lines industry, the wholesale insurance marketing system and the duties and operations of a surplus line broker.
Native Californian, born in Campbell in 1922. Anderson served in the Army in WWII as 1st Lieutenant during occupation of Germany and was eventually promoted to Captain.
Anderson is still active in the day to day running of Anderson & Murison, Inc.. The company is owned by Mr. Anderson and provides personal and commercial lines products to retail brokers in most states. Anderson's daughter Melissa Alcorn serves as A&M’s VP for commercial lines. Dave resides in San Marino with wife, Marshalene and dog Molly.
