Andrew Valdivia Awarded Ramsden-Sullivan, IIABCal's Most Prestigious Award

IBA West conferred its most prestigious award, the Ramsden/Sullivan Memorial Award, to Andrew Valdivia, CPCU, ARM, White Sutton & Company, Santa Monica. 

“Valdivia is uniquely qualified for the Ramsden-Sullivan Memorial award,” said Kevin Baker, IBA West President. “Valdivia has enjoyed a truly distinguished insurance career and an extended tenure serving the association. 

The award is a surprise but Valdivia sensed something was up when his extended family entered the ballroom to honor him. Teary-eyed, Valdivia, thanked the association membership for this high honor and his family for their support.  He called upon his colleagues at White Sutton to stand and be recognized for their assistance in making his career as successful as it today. 

Fellow Ramsden-Sullivan recipients Jim Armitage, CPCU, AAI, John Norwood, and Steve Young were on hand to congratulate Valdivia. 

Valdivia began his career at the firm where he now serves as president as part time file clerk, gofer, and occasional janitor.

Valdivia has earned the professional designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Associate of Risk Management. He is consistently one of the firm’s top sales associates and is responsible for the design and implementation of risk management and insurance programs for the retail, banking, hospitality, service, and manufacturing industries.

Valdivia has also given back to the industry that has given him so much by serving as a volunteer to its association on the local, state and national levels.

On the local level, he has served as president of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association of Los Angeles and is the past president of the Independent Agents of Santa Monica.

On the state level, Valdivia served on the IBA West Executive Committee as president, president-elect and secretary-treasurer, as well as serving on the IBA West Board of Directors. 

He also has served the state association as a member of its Membership Priorities Task Force and Local Association Effectiveness Task Force.

Valdivia was awarded the IBA West Ronald Lee Wilson Outstanding Young Agent Award. 

On the national level, he served as California National Director on the Board of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA). 

Valdivia has also served as chairman of the IIABA Virtual University and on the board of the IIABA Trusted Choice, the leading brand initiative of the independent insurance agent and broker.  

In addition, he has been making a difference in the Santa Monica community for the past 35 years.  Valdivia served on numerous non-profit boards in the Santa Monica Community and is a distinguished past president of the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica. 

He also served on the boards of the Police Activities League of Santa Monica and Santa Monica College Associates, where he worked with the college to develop an insurance curriculum and certificate program.  He has even served as  a Little League District Umpire, league president and has received the District 37 Volunteer Umpire of the Year Award. 

He and his wife Diane have been married for 27 years, and they have raised two children, Joshua Steven and Amber Kristine.
