Tim Manaka, Jr. Senior Vice President of FIA Insurance Services, Pasadena was installed Wednesday as President of the Insurance Brokers and Agents of the West (IBA West) at the association’s annual meeting at the Westin Hotel in Pasadena.
Manaka thanked the members of the association for the honor of representing them as their president saying, “be proud of who you are.”
“We are the leaders in our communities; we are board members of local non-profits, the coaches of local sports teams, the mentors and we change people’s lives on a daily basis by providing essential products and services upon which our communities rely.”
“Nothing would move forward with us,” added Manaka.
Manaka invited the members to join him and the other volunteer leaders in IBA West to help grow the ranks of the association.
“It’s a new era in Sacramento and we need more members to help us confront the challenges we are likely to face,” said Manaka.
He also urged the membership to utilize the resources IBA West offers like General Counsel Steve Young’s “First Call Free-Legal Hotline.”
“Just knowing I can pick up the phone or shoot off a quick email to Steve Young on a legal question is a fabulous benefit. It saves me the expense and time of contacting an attorney and there is no one more knowledgeable on the legal issues of independent agents and brokers,” said Manaka.
Also, Manaka noted that IBA West has reorganized and rebranded Insurance Skills Center to become IBA West Education.
Under Cheryl Koch, CEO of Agency Management Resource Group, IBA West is now poised to provide members with programs focusing on agency management and professional sales training programs that will help members differentiate themselves from the competition in the market place said Manaka.
“Everyone I know is concerned about becoming more profitable, running a better agency and planning for perpetuation,” said Manaka.
Finally, Manaka, a former chair of the Young Agents Committee, urged members to get involved and take advantage of the opportunities to network and make life-long friendships.
Throughout his remarks, Manaka called on friends and colleagues and talked about their contributions to the association over the year. In closing, he said, “there are many people here today who were very helpful to me over the years and I want to thank you all for allowing me to take on this very important role.”
