he Insurance Brokers and Agents of Burbank, Glendale & Pasadena proudly announced the establishment of the Ken Anderson Memorial Endowment at Glendale Community College. Local Association President Holly Heurkins and Treasurer Rick Dinger delivered the check to the Glendale College Foundation office on January 10, 2011. The initial funding for the endowment is just over $14,500.
The endowment will support the two insurance certificate programs in place at Glendale CC," said Rick Dinger, President, Crescenta Valley Insurance, former IBA West and IBA BGP President. "Funds will help when the college doesn't have enough students in the class," explained Dinger. "It is never very much money, so the endowment will continue to grow and once the classes are all self sustaining, we will use the money for scholarships for second year students in the program."
The endowment was created by funds received after the passing of Ken Anderson in 1996. Ken Anderson was a graduate of Glendale High School and Cal State Los Angeles. His insurance career began in 1963 at Carlton G. Anderson and in 1966 Ken became president of CG Anderson & Associates. He was the president of the Pasadena Insurance Association in 1980 and 81 and was a member of the board of directors and served on the executive committee of Independent Insurance Agents Association of California which evolved into IBA-West. Ken had so many friends and associates in the industry; a Ken Anderson Memorial Fund was established.
The funds were held by IBA West until a few years ago, when local insurance association leader Joe Gieson requested the funds from IBA West to the local association. After several meetings at the local level, the board voted to establish the Ken Anderson Memorial Endowment at Glendale Community College to benefit the insurance certificate program and it’s students.
"By creating the endowment at GCC will continue to grow and benefit our community and our industry indefinitely," said Dinger.
"This is awesome," said Cheryl Koch, MBA, CPCU, CIC, AAI, ARM, AAM, AIM, AIS, ARP, API, ACSR, AFIS
IBA West Education Managing Director. "IBA BGP is doing great work and we are committed to supporting their efforts any way we can."
